4 Extra Things You Can Do To Keep Your Home Safe

Having an alarm system in place in your home is a great way to protect yourself against break-ins. However, it isn't always enough. Your alarm system needs updates to ensure that it is working properly. Here are four extra things you can do to help protect your home:

  1. Change the Code: Every once in a while, you should change the code that deactivates your alarm system. This way, it cannot easily be hacked into or someone who might know what your code is will not be able to deactivate it later on once you change it. This includes contractors, plumbers, and other service people you may have given the code to in order for them to get the work done in your home. Be sure to change the code right after these services have been done and these people no longer have a reason to be in your home.
  2. Connect to Your Smartphone: Connecting your alarm system to your smartphone is also a great way to keep your home safer. You will be alerted on your phone of suspicious activity and you can even connect security cameras, which allows you to check up on your home with your phone even while you are away, such as on vacation.
  3. Add a Friend: One thing you can do with a smart alarm system is add a friend's contact information so that they are alerted if there is a problem with your home so that they can check up on it for you. You might want to do this if you are going to be away on vacation or you feel like you are unsafe for whatever reason.
  4. Get Central Monitoring Connected to Authorities: Finally, you want to be sure that the authorities are connected to your alarm system. This is important to ensure that the authorities are properly alerted to come to your home when it's necessary. Just be sure that they are alerted for the right reasons. For example, they should be alerted when the alarm has been activated for a certain amount of time and when there might be a chance of fire. You should be able to control all of this through your smartphone and you can change what they are alerted to over time.

When you do these four extra things, you can be sure that your home is properly protected at all times so that you have much less to worry about. Check out a website like for more information and assistance.
